ITT introduced a secondary containment system for its ICM metallic magnetic drive process pump

ITT Inc.’s Goulds Pumps introduces a secondary containment system for the Gould's Pumps ICM Metallic Magnetic Drive Process Pump to help customers meet safety, compliance, and environmental requirements. Developed by engineers at ITT’s Bornemann brand in Germany, the optional secondary containment system provides an additional layer of protection against leakage for critical applications.

The Goulds Pumps ICM Metallic Magnetic Drive Process Pump is designed to handle hazardous, environmentally-sensitive fluids for applications where leak-free operation is essential. The pump’s deep-drawn, single piece containment shell—the most important component for achieving zero leakage—is comprised of a Hastelloy C alloy for strong corrosion resistance, includes a vortex-bending bead to prevent erosion, and features a burst pressure rating greater than 2,175 psi to enable robust containment.

The new secondary containment system builds on that foundation by serving as a back-up unit in the highly unlikely event of a breach in the primary containment system. Should that occur, the secondary system triggers a sensor alert that enables operators to safely shut down the pump, contain leakage, and rectify the issues.

“As environmental regulations become more stringent and operational standards rise, this enhancement delivers measurable value where it matters most: safety and compliance,” said Richard Evans, Global Product Manager for ITT Goulds Pumps. “Bornemann’s engineering expertise played a central role in designing this secondary containment system for the world’s most demanding applications. This is a strong example of how ITT brands collaborate to develop innovative solutions based on customer needs.

Applications for the Goulds Pumps ICM pump include:

  • Chemical processing – corrosive, toxic, hazardous and flammable chemicals
  • Petrochemical and oil & gas – volatile liquid handling and refinery operations
  • Pharmaceutical and food – contamination-sensitive and high-purity processes
  • Water and wastewater treatment – aggressive chemical dosing
  • Electronics and semiconductor manufacturing – ultra-pure chemical transfer
  • Marine and aerospace – mission-critical fuel and lubrication systems

The secondary containment system for the ICM pump is available globally and can be specified with new pump orders for critical-risk applications.
