Fuel sales in Brazil fall for 2nd consecutive year in 2016

RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) -- Fuel sales in Brazil fell for the second consecutive year in 2016, the country's fuel distributors' association Sindicom said in a note on Monday.
Total fuel sales from companies that make up Sindicom fell to 24.3 billion gallons, a drop of 9.3% compared with the previous year.
Sindicom accounts for 80% of Brazil's fuel sales.
Gasoline sales rose 0.7% to around 30.4 billion liters, but that rise was outweighed by a dramatic 26.8% fall in sales of hydrated ethanol.
In 2015, fuel sales fell 3.4% in what was then the first annual fall since 2005.
