Phillips 66 (PSX) reported the start of a month-long emissions event related to maintenance repairs at its Borger refinery in the Texas panhandle.
"The line going to Unit 34's SRU [sulfur recovery unit] incinerator is partially plugged with sulfur," the company said in a filing to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. The filing said sections of that line would be heated in an effort to melt out the sulfur, and that "there may be visible emissions during the heating of the line."
Phillips said, however, that the Unit 34 SRU isn't scheduled to go down. It said the emissions event was scheduled to begin Friday morning and last until April 4.
The 146,000-bpd refinery is about 50 miles northeast of Amarillo, Texas.
