Construction worker dies in accident at ExxonMobil olefins plant in Baytown

(UPDATE, 11/24: The man killed was identified by his employer as 53-year-old Walter Warner of Sandy Hook, Mississippi.)

A construction worker was killed at ExxonMobil's olefins plant in Baytown, Texas, during an incident at the plant late Thursday.

The contractor was fatally injured while working on a construction project, according to ExxonMobil media relations.

Plant officials say emergency workers immediately attended to the employee, and plant officials are now investigating the cause of the incident.

"We are greatly saddened by this and express our deepest sympathy to his family and his co-workers," ExxonMobil said in a statement.

"The name of the individual will not be released until his family has been notified."

ExxonMobil says the contractor was employed by Group Contractors, a subcontract company hired to work at the site.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation into the accident as well, according to My FOX Houston. Deputies arrived at the facility at around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.
