Toyo Engineering wins Malaysia ethylene work

Toyo Engineering was awarded a contract for a steam cracker complex (SCC) as part of the RAPID integrated refinery and petrochemicals project by Malaysia's Petronas in Pengerang, Johor.
The contract was awarded on a lump sum turn-key basis and is scheduled for completion by mid-2019.
The scope of the deal includes engineering, procurement of equipment and materials, construction and commissioning. Facilities include a new ethylene plant, pryolysis gasoline unit, a butadiene extraction plant, a benzene separation plant, a MTBE production unit and related utilities and offsite facilities.
The contract amount is approximately 240 billion yen, according to Toyo officials.
The overall RAPID project will consist of a 300,000 bpd refinery and petrochemical complex with a combined capacity of producting 7.7 million tpy of various grades of products, including differentiated and specialty chemicals products such as synthetic rubbers and high-grade polymers.
Toyo says it has a proven track record of completing more than 30 projects for Petronas since 1983, when the first gas processing facility project was awarded.
Toyo notes that it has built more than 40 green-field ethylene plants worldwide.
