Syntroleum secures EPA registration for renewable gasoline blendstock
The renewable and synthetic fuels technology company announced on Aug. 17 that Dynamic Fuels LLC, Syntroleum Corp.'s joint venture with Tyson Foods, has been granted Part 79 registration for its renewable gasoline blendstock 10 by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
This designation enables Dynamic Fuels to generate 1.5 advanced biofuel Renewable Identification Numbers (RINs) for each gallon of the renewable gasoline blendstock when blended directly into petroleum gasoline at up to a 10% concentration.
At its design production rate of 75 million (MM) gallons per year, Dynamic Fuels' plant in Geismar, Louisiana should produce approximately 11.25 MM advanced biofuel RINs per year.
These RINs have traded for as much as $0.83/RIN during 2012 and are approximately $0.46/RIN at present.
The announcement marks the third time Dynamic Fuels has successfully applied for and received EPA Part 79 Registration for drop-in renewable fuels.
The JV received Part 79 registration for renewable diesel blendstock for up to a 20% blend with petroleum diesel in 2009. In 2011, it received Part 79 registration for renewable diesel for use at up to a 100% concentration.
