Linde to build large hydrogen plant with China JV

Linde will build and operate a large hydrogen and synthesis gas plant in the Chongqing Chemical Park in western China in a joint enterprise with Chongqing Chemical & Pharmaceutical Holding Co. (CCPHC), the engineering and technology firm announced.

The project has a total investment value of around €200mn, the company said. Linde holds 60% of the shares in the joint enterprise.

The new plant, which will be supplied by Linde’s engineering division, is expected to come on stream in the third quarter of 2014.

At that point, the new on-site plant will provide Chongqing-based production facilities of BASF and CCPHC with carbon monoxide, hydrogen and synthesis gas.

“We look forward to jointly supporting the expansion of the developing chemical cluster Chongqing with our partner CCPHC,” said Sanjiv Lamba, a member of Linde’s executive board and responsible for the company’s business in Asia. “ As a result of this project, we will further strengthen our position as the leading gases and engineering company in the growth market China.”

Specific capacity figures were not released.
