Poll shows 90% of Americans believe refining and petrochem manufacturing are important
A poll released today shows that 90% of Americans believe the nations petroleum refineries and petrochemical manufacturing plants are among Americas most important or important industries.
NPRA, the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association, announced results of the poll conducted by Opinion Research.
A total of 44% of Americans believe the refining and petrochemical sectors are among the countrys most important industries, while 46% consider the sector among the countrys important industries, the poll found.
Only 5% of those surveyed said the refining and petrochemical sectors were not among the countrys important industries and the remaining 5% said they did not know.
When asked what they associated with the refining and petrochemical sectors, and allowed to give multiple responses, those polled listed: oil, gas or fuel (76%); critical to Americas competiveness (67 %); manufacturing (64%); science and high tech (62%); and keystone to other U.S. industries (57%).
The poll surveyed 1,000 adults and was demographically and geographically proportioned to accurately reflect the opinions of all adults in the nation based on the latest U.S. Census figures. The poll has a margin of error of 3.1%.
Its gratifying to know that the vast majority of Americans understand the vital role that Americas fuels and petrochemical manufacturers play, said NPRA President Charles T. Drevna. Our members strengthen Americas national and economic security, preserve high-tech American manufacturing jobs, and efficiently produce reliable fuels and petrochemicals that benefit every American every day.
Mr. Drevna said many of these themes are reflected in NPRAs recently released 2011 Annual Report, which can be found on the NPRA website.
Our Annual Report explains clearly the contributions our members make to America and the American people, and shows why the fuels and petrochemicals we manufacture will serve Americans for many decades to come, Mr. Drevna said. We can and must play a critical role in building a stronger, more prosperous America and improving the lives of American families.
