Merichem to install system for treating Haynesville shale play gas
Merichem Company has entered into a licensing and equipment-supply agreement with a leading midstream energy services provider to install a LO-CAT hydrogen sulfide treatment system at its shale gas treating facility in Louisiana.
The 6.93 metric ton/day LO-CAT unit, provided through the Merichem Gas Technologies business unit, will be integrated into the overall processing facility, with a proposed start-up date during the fourth quarter of 2011. The LO-CAT unit will be treating 34.6 MMSCFD of amine acid gas with a H2S removal efficiency of 99.9%, far exceeding current environmental standards. This will be the second LO-CAT system to be installed in the Haynesville Shale play for this client, and the third LO-CAT unit to be installed in the Haynesville play. LO-CAT is becoming recognized as the sulfur recovery system of choice for the shale gas industry.
Merichem is pleased with the rapid acceptance of our LO-CAT technologies for shale gas treating applications, said Patrick Hickey, Merichems president. This is a clear indication that we are creating superior value for our operating partners.
LO-CAT offers the most flexible H2S removal process available that directly converts H2S to elemental sulfur. LO-CAT maintains the same H2S outletregardless of changes in sulfur capacity, gas flow and H2S loadwithout adjustment to the system. LO-CAT also offers lower capital costs and the lowest operating costs in the industry, with more than 200 licenses in 29 countries on 6 continents.
In addition to acid and sulfur removal technologies, Merichem is the industry leader in managing the beneficial reuse of refining caustic streams and naphthenic acid. Merichem chemical offerings include oxidation catalysts and soda chemicals.
