BASF is expanding its diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI) plant in Antwerp, Belgium, from 360,000 metric tpy to 450,000 metric tpy. The expansion is scheduled for completion second-quarter 2005. Reportedly, the additional capacity is intended to meet increasing MDI demand in Europe as well as the Asian market.
BASF and partners are also constructing an integrated production complex for MDI and toluene diisocyanate in Caojing, Shanghai, which is scheduled for completion in 2006.
