In the lubrication of double-acting compressor cylinders, one of the most important factors is the oil feed rate. Likelihood of over-lubrication is greater than that of supplying too little oil. Many problems associated with compressor operation can be overcome by preventing excessive lubrication. Proper control of the oil supply to the cylinders is the most effective means of preventing formation of objectionable deposits around valve ports, in ring grooves and on cooler surfaces. Under average conditions, one quart of oil will properly lubricate an operation equivalent to the sweep of a piston over 10,000,000 ft2 of cy
