Boiler water carryover occurs when water droplets become entrained in saturated steam. The quantity of water entrained in the steam is described as steam quality. Steam quality and purity. Most of the entrained droplets are removed in separation equipment. However, even under ideal conditions, steam separation equipment is not 100% efficient and carryover can occur. Entrained water can cause metal erosion when water droplets in high-velocity steam impinge on turbine blades.
