ECC Association 2019 Future Leader Mid-Year Meeting
Over 100 emerging industry leaders gathered in Houston in late February for a full day of networking, collaboration, and professional development. The meeting kicked-off the annual ECC (Engineering and Construction Contracting) Association’s Future Leader activities, which included initial discussions on the upcoming ECC Conference, “Win Together to Share Success NOW!”
The three-year Future Leader program has created a vibrant network of nearly 200 current participants and nearly 1,000 Future Leader alumni. These emerging professionals support the ECC's mission to promote thought leadership through fresh perspectives. By developing new ideas and giving visibility to bright leaders, this program energizes participation in the industry and encourages growth and innovation.
The February meeting provided opportunities to network with ECC board members and fellow Future Leaders, problem-solve current industry challenges, and hear from industry experts on leadership and career advancement. The day’s agenda included several enlightening presentations, such as:
- Leading Through Data -- Katy Johansson, ExxonMobil
- Downturn-Proof Your Promotion -- Cortlan Wickliff, Associate Vice Provost of Academic Affairs, Strategic Initiatives for Rice University
- From Unconscious Bias to Inclusive Leadership -- Martha Feedback, Senior Director at Catalyst
Kurt Mondlak, Site Manager of Projects for BASF Corporation and current Liaison for the Future Leader program, shared some of his perspectives from the meeting: “It was very energizing to be a part of the program today. We heard a lot of different perspectives that we wouldn’t otherwise hear in our day-to-day jobs, and I think that’s important for an industry like ours.”
A key part of the program includes collaboration among Future Leader committees in preparation for the annual ECC Conference, which will be held August 27-30 at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs.
